Mėnuo Juodaragis (Black-Horned Moon or MJR for short) is a festival of contemporary Baltic culture and alternative music representing the heritage of pagan tradition, post-folk currents and the vanguard of postmodern music. Every year, the innovative and outstanding event assumes ever new forms of expression including a variety of performances from both Baltic and foreign artists, shows of sound architects, ancient rituals, lectures and films on many interesting topics, exhibitions, traditional crafts, eco-art projects, interactive art projects, performances, games, dance parties, hikes etc.

Mėnuo Juodaragis XX will be dedicated to Thunder God

The yearly independent festival ofnative alternative music and contemporary Baltic culture MĖNUO JUODARAGIS celebrates the 20th Anniversary this year! Coming edition of the festival traditionally will be held on the last weekend of Summer, August 24-27, 2017. Four days and three nights this time are calling You to again to the marvellous wild island at Dūburys lake (20 km from Zarasai town), North-eastern Lithuania.

Mėnuo Juodaragis (Blackhorned Moon) is one of the most unique culture events in Europe, one of the biggest Summer festivals in Lithuania. This creative open air is dedicated to revive native traditions and present most original artists from Baltic lands and other countries.

 Four stages of Mėnuo Juodaragis XX will host over 50 live performances, involving great variety musical styles and famous international bands - from authentic folk to contemporary post-folk, modern music, rock and metal, from classical to shamanic, acoustic to cosmic electronic and much more.

The abundant festival programme also presents ancient crafts, lectures, art exhibitions, films, dance parties, archaic rituals, tribal workshops, hikes, land art, sports, theatre and many other subjects. This year festival thunders with a supreme mythological theme - Perkūnas - the mighty god of thunder and justice, similar to nordic Thor, Slavic Perun or Indian Indra.

The theme of MJR XX is Thunder God - also known as PIE *Perkwunos, Lithuanian Perkūnas, Latvian Pērkons, Old Prussian Perkūns, Finnish Perkele, Mordvinic Pur'gine-paz, Sanskrit Parjanya, Thracian Περκων/Περκος with suffix -k- dropped via IE *perō(ṷ)nos "thunder, Thunderer", possibly from a connection with *perūn(V) "mountain, rock": Slavic Perun (Old Russian Перунъ, Belarusian Пярун, Polish Piorun, Czech Perun, Serbian Перун, Bulgarian Перун, Slovenian Perun/Perün/Perunk), Albanian Perëndi, Hittite Pirwa, Greek keraunós, Scandinavian Thor etc.

Full setlist will be annouced on the 1st of August. Now it is already known that these bands will play at the show:
